Swiss Adventures
As you can probably tell, I've been having an awful time here in Switzerland.
We get Mondays off from the show here, and without fail I have leapt straight out of bed, onto a mode of public transport and gone to find something nice to look at, preferably whilst holding a beer and polishing off a bratwurst. The photo above was taken on my first foray into the local Alps, the resort of Braunwald. Amazingly, all of our days off have had bright hot sunshine just like the shot above suggests! Moments after this photo, I had to take the winter coat off and parade around in a T-shirt.
I've had to make the most of my days off as the rest of the week has seen a rather relentless schedule at the theatre. As well as being present for pretty much every performance here in Zurich, I've also been needed at most rehearsals which have taken place every weekday afternoon readying our top team of understudies for their potential moments in the spotlight, as well as preparing to conduct the show myself. Indeed I have a rehearsal to get to after I've finished typing this and I'm then conducting the next three performances.
The show itself has settled into its run marvellously. I'm relieved that I still turn up each day massively looking forward to playing the show, although I think we are all looking forward to a break in the schedule as the tour is shipped off to its next theatre in Dubai. We have two and a half weeks left here, and I plan to spend the last days of March at the traditional Cheshire retreat, the parents' abode, perfectly timed with Mother's Day.
Before that, though, we have the rest of our understudies to rehearse, as well as a few more Alpine peaks to visit! Braunwald, Rigi & Titlis have been ticked off so far. Hoping to get Eiger ("Top of Europe") done before we finish our run here.
