A Year On The Road

After finishing our run in Norwich and enjoying a well-earned week off for the whole touring company, we headed across the Irish Sea with the set of Matilda for a welcome return to Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. With the five-week run almost completely sold out, the audiences have been unsurprisingly tremendous.

Being abroad for this stretch of time brings its own challenges: what to pack, how to fill the daytimes, and how to stay active and healthy. The daytime schedule at the show has calmed somewhat after months of promo work, cast changes and covering duties. Personally, this has allowed me to pick up my running, strength training and swimming again, with a handy leisure centre just around the corner from where we’re staying and lovely running routes along the Liffey, beside the canals and around Phoenix Park. Our accommodation includes a small kitchen, so cooking has become a cost-effective and healthy way to prepare for each performance (or indeed for a couple of lovely slurps of Guinness!).

There are two more weeks of performances here before we ship back to the UK to play Milton Keynes Theatre at the end of the month. Being close to London, where many of us live, will be welcome after what has now been a whole year of performances on this tour - our first preview was on 6 October 2025 in Leicester! Here’s to the start of our second year on the road.
