Norwich - Best Touring City in England?

Our new children’s cast are settling in during our run of Matilda in Norwich, and the adult cast (and crew) finally get some time to enjoy the summer sunshine! And there’s been plenty of time also to explore Norfolk’s “Fine City” and the surrounding delights, such as the Broads and Cromer. I made a rather public - possibly controversial - announcement that Norwich is now my favourite English city to tour to (I don’t count Manchester as it is too close to my heart), overtaking Bristol after more than 20 years. Norwich feels like old Bristol these days, with lots of exciting independent businesses, events, and more importantly it all feels affordable. Bristol itself is still wonderful, but are people starting to get priced out of the city?

Edinburgh & Dublin are always special cities to visit. Indeed, Dublin is next on our tour schedule. And we still have the delights of Glasgow to come as well! But I have been pleasantly surprised just how enjoyable Norwich is as a city, even if their mobile phone signal needs a major upgrade across the city.

I haven’t had much chance to rest, mind you: August saw a workshop back in London sprung on me, ahead of a potentially exciting new project next year. Thankfully the team at Matilda have been hugely accommodating to allow me to nip back and forth over the past few weeks. Hopefully more news on this in the coming months!

And just to add to the fun, I upgraded my BMW X1 to a brand new model, just in time to leave it parked up for a month while I head across to Ireland! Needless to say going to make the most out of the last few journeys to and from Norwich.
