The Role of Matilda

We’re almost there. In three days’ time, our final group of young performers will take to the stage of Birmingham’s Hippodrome and play to a packed audience, no doubt full of family and friends, for their debut in Matilda the Musical. So far, 14 of them have done just that, to huge success, but as the rehearsal schedule has to navigate around an 8-show week, these first performances have to be dotted throughout the month of July. These “new” recruits have now been rehearsing for this show for three months!

All credit as well to our current adult cast and crew, as well as my wonderful music department, for putting in the hours to achieve these sensational opening performances. This new cast have just slotted right in! And we’re loving their fresh energy. Thankfully it looks like our next venue, Norwich, will be (relatively) quieter for all and we will hopefully enjoy some August sunshine in this fine part of Norfolk.

Although there have been many hours spent in the theatre, July is when I celebrate my birthday. I was lucky to have the whole together at my parents house - mum, dad, sister, brother-in-law and niece - and some perfect summer sunshine made for a lovely day relaxing and eating lovely food! With both me and my sister working all over the UK - and often abroad - it is quite rare to get everyone together, so I was glad that this happened to fall on such a special day. Now attention can start to turn to what autumn may bring…!
